Traveling between worlds is a possibility. Both Aether on Heart Soldier and Amos on Wild City are outlanders from other stars to Tartaglia's and my own world. They are not the first instance of such a thing occurring, and will also certainly not be the last.
Barring the need for my presence in my own world, I would be willing to assist in whatever capacity in exchange for one condition of my own.
[ He's surprised by Zhongli's reaction - he's so used to just be flippant about the end of the world by now that genuine reactions to it feel a little weird. But it's appreciated, and he's touched even if he's not sure how to express it ]
... Thanks. I'll talk to Aether and Amos, just to see what we can do. As for your condition, what would it be?
I wish to bring stories of your world to my world of Teyvat, and in turn have the stories of Teyvat told in your world. I do not mean to alter the course of your home with the addition of technology - so the stories may remain as just that, stories. Perhaps impossible ones.
Countries and civilizations rise and fall. The hate and reason behind bloody wars wash away in the sands of time. In the end, it is only though history and memories that the departed live on.
I wish the will of my people to carry on long after I'm gone. And if I am to help save your world, I wish for the will of your people to survive as well.
[ Oh. He's giving it some consideration, trying to think of how that would work to begin with ]
For your part, you can write a book. My world is a little ... different. From a lot I've seen here. So I don't think anything about your world will sound real. Framing it as a legend or a fictional book is likely going to work better.
But as for my world's stories, I don't exactly feel comfortable with that.
I understand this is obviously something important to you, or you wouldn't have brought it up but no, not particularly. To start with I'm not the one who has a say on it. Some of our stories are fictional and legends, obviously, but some have real history to it and made by people who shaped the world how it is today.
Which is in large part shitty. And even for those who struggled to make it less shitty, it's not up to me to decide whether some people from another world with no context get to know and discuss it all.
At most I could let you pass on the story of myself and my family — which is just as shitty, and not exactly worth discussing or passing on. Though I can give you my sister's book for a glimpse of it.
Then if you do not want your stories passed on - both of your world and your family, I will respect your wishes regarding the matter.
Though I must also caution on talking to Aether and Amos about their world traveling abilities yet. They both arrived here without their memories and are on the path of relearning who they are. It may take some time before they recall the nuances of their travels.
You should have opened with that, that's significantly less useful.
[ he sighs ]
But that's fine. I'll keep them in the backburner as a backup plan. I am already looking into ways for which traveling through worlds would be attainable by myself and others.
As for what is happening in my world specifically. The first apocalypse was caused by my sister. I didn't manage to stop it, and in a last-second effort to save my family I brought us all back in time.
Unfortunately we brought the end of the world with us, so now the apocalypse is scheduled far earlier, caused by a war that should not be on the timeline. I'm still uncertain of what causes it and yes, I know my sister is a possible factor because I brought her with us, but I'm considering other possibilities too.
Taking aside my lack of knowledge, the biggest issue we face is the Commission. They are an organization tasked with preserving the timeline the way it is - and the end of the world, the first one at any rate, is supposed to happen according to them. So any attempts at preventing it is, well. Met with their meddling.
I worked with them for a time, while I was trying to find my way back to my family.
[ A pause, as he realizes there's a piece missing from that exposition ]
Right. When I was 13 I traveled forward in time and got stuck in the apocalypse, unable to get back. I lived there as the only surviving living being for 45 years, and managed to get out of it just because I was recruited by the commission. Then I found a way to get back to my family, about 10 days before the apocalypse was scheduled.
I messed up the equation, so I ended up with this body. It's the same process I'm proposing for Tartaglia.
So, Five is going against the world order and taking on some overarching power that wants to maintain the fate of everything according to their very rigid specifications.
Yes. Tartaglia definitely has a type. And no wonder he is so enamored with Five.
Slotting that piece of the puzzle to think about later. ]
Is your primary goal to take apart this Commission, or to try and continually stay one step ahead of the apocalypse occurring through alterations in time?
I want to take them down and steal all their technology and advancement. To use for help on Alexander's world. It's up to him to share if he wants, but needless to say, he also requires some assistance.
They are able to stop time as they see fit, as well as monitor all possible points in time to ensure there will be no deviation, and send agents tasked with taking care of them should there be any.
Something like that is going to be useful for him, to avoid certain ... undesired outcomes. But as for my world, I'm fine with just stopping the world from ending. Continuously altering time is not ideal, but I don't see why they get to choose ending all life on the planet is acceptable.
It does not seem that they are open to negotiation. Nor am I suggesting that you alter your current course of action. However, I must ask -- have they given a reason as to why they are so determined to preserve the timeline?
No, but the end of all life is already the worst case scenario, so I'm inclined to believe it's because they enjoy living a comfortable life hidden in the timeline at the expense of everyone else.
Then should you factor myself into your tactical plans, know that I am no stranger to battle or warfare. My primary attunement is to the geo element, particularly in earth manipulation and shielding, though I also have skill in various weaponry.
Of course. No one should have to survive on their own for so long - even if it aided in building the strength of character you have today. And I am glad you have come out the other side still willing to form connections with people. That kind of loneliness and loss can easily sour to bitterness.
When all this is over, may you finally be able to retire in peace.
I am a retired god. The God of Contracts was the domain I was most well known for, and I presided over my home country of Liyue for over 3,700 years. I met Tartaglia when he was sent on assignment from his own god to attempt to steal my divinity.
It was part of the contract between her and I. She wished for my gnosis - the divinity which connects me to Celestia, and I wished a test for my people. To prove that they were strong enough to no longer need a god to watch over them.
It was mutually beneficial to the both of us.
Though as why she needed it and what she intends to use it for, that I cannot say.
[ Because he doesn't know or because of the terms of the contract. Who knows really what's going on there. ]
