Venti and I are the last of the original seven Archons - each one of us overseeing one of the nations of Teyvat. I met him over 2,000 years ago on the border of our two lands after he and his friends defeated Decarabian - god of storms.
The other archons have... fallen over the years. And new ones have risen up to take their place.
When a god dies, their energy returns to the land. If done so voluntarily, that energy can be redirected in ways that are beneficial - leaving behind a legacy. But violent ends cause violent disruptions of energy and can scar the location in devastating ways. In addition, remnants of their will and strong emotions continue to exist well after their passing.
One could say it is like an echo that can tempt monsters and other folk into doing their bidding. It is also rare but not unheard of for some to gain enough power to hold a form of their own again if not sealed properly.
He is not a god, but he is not mortal either. He served me for thousands of years which is also why he is acquainted to Venti. I have not seen many more rigorous in fulfilling their duty than he.
Which is why I do not want him to know who I am just yet. I fear he will go back to living for my sake, but I am a retired archon and no longer his god. I want him to explore the world and what is has to offer a bit more before he decides which path to take.
Once he finds out - and I have no doubt that is the intention of this place - then he can make that decision. But for now, I want him to experience a life with significantly less duty and responsibility before he has to choose his path.
It seems he has a difficult time grasping such concept as preference and enjoyment. I try to gently nudge him in that direction but perhaps it just will not stick.

Archons themselves are gods after all.

Most stay dormant for millennia at a time.

But how does the one who can't be told fit into all of that?

I believe my inability to resonate with him prohibits me from being a good companion for such a task.
